With his universally understandable, deeply spiritual “Cosmic Chants” Yogananda created simple songs that are catchy and easy to learn. They are meant to be chanted like a prayer to God and repeated as long as the heart or mind needs to; each chant was composed for a different emotional situation in life. A friend of mine suggested recording the Chants (Cosmic Chants, edition 1938) of Paramahansa Yogananda. The idea was, to additionally support a schoolproject in India already sponsored by me.This friend had already listened to me singing some of these songs; in their simplicity they are to me – like the Taizé Songs in Europe are to me f.ex. - enlightning little companions on my way, as well as lovely expressions of joy of life and gratitude. Being myself of european origin, I decided to create the CD, together with indian musicians, with the aim to represent and respect, Paramahansa Yogananda’s desire to let East and West meet. It was my intention to combine the indian atmosphere and sense of music of the musician together with my european background and understanding of these songs. A few years ago, I was lucky to be introduced to Pandit Prafulla Kumar Kar, a singing star in Odisha, India. I met him on a interreligious Festival where I performed on stage as well. Then, for this project, I contacted him and asked him for advice concerning the coordination of indian instruments and musicians. However, without knowing what to expect, I flew to India fully trusting that something beautiful was to come into existence. Finally, the adventure of CD recordings in India took its course.

The inner deep spiritual power of Yoganandas Cosmic Chants, encourages and strengthens the singer in his or her expression of the love for God. Yogananda also set some of the lyrics of Rabindranath Tagore (on this CD "Who is in my temple ?", "Light the lamp of Thy love", "Thou art my life") with whom he had also a personal respectful exchange of ideas .
(Rabindranath Tagore; Indian poet, composer, musician, philosopher, painter, nobelprizewinner of 1913 for literature).
One-third of the profit of this CD will be donated to the Balashram Residential School in Odisha (India). This school provides poor and destitute children with a twelve-year all-comprehensive education and professional training. At present 480 boys and girls between the age of 4 to 12 are living at the state-approved Balashram Residential School. Each year, 40 new children are going to be admitted to the Residential School, which is exclusively financed by donations.
